Crowns are dental restorations that are placed over a tooth when conservative restorations are not enough to restore the form and function. A bridge is a custom-made artificial tooth that fills the gap where a tooth is missing and is attached to the two teeth on either side.

In the case where teeth have large broken fillings, a crown can protect the remaining natural tooth.
